Water-smart production
Two 20-site Mr. Stacky systems and two LED grow lights provide 40 indoor growing sites while participants track pH, nutrients, water use, harvests, and maintenance.
Open Mr. Stacky ↗Las Vegas · 12-month community pilot
A family-centered, water-smart lab connecting Southern Nevada growers to practical tools, product ideas, customers, and USDA resources.
Designed for a desert city.
Built for community growth.
The opportunity
Las Vegas growers face extreme heat, scarce water, limited space, and high startup costs. Beginning and family-scale producers need a visible place to test efficient systems, build confidence, and meet customers.
The Water-Smart Grower-to-Market Lab turns shared equipment and practical education into lasting community capacity—without excavation or permanent construction.
An ancestral foundation
Adrell Bullock’s ancestral line extends from Marks, Mississippi, where the Mule Train component of the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign began. The campaign was shaped in part by the severe poverty Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. witnessed among families in Marks and Quitman County.
According to family history, Adrell’s great-grandfather Herbert Thompson was awarded 80 acres through the USDA to farm in Quitman County during the Great Depression. The Sage Bears Market is inspired by his farming legacy and is here to continue Indigenous Chahta traditions of land stewardship, shared food, mutual responsibility, and community care.

Connect with the project ↓Right-sized equipment
The lab can operate indoors or outside, using two towers with lighting and heat protection selected for each environment.

Total growing sites
Two compact, automated recirculating towers designed for hands-on hydroponic education and small-space food production.
Two full-spectrum fixtures provide dedicated coverage for the two towers. Mount one light over each crop canopy with secure, adjustable hardware.
Use in a dry indoor area on a timer with GFCI-protected power; keep plugs and connections away from the reservoirs.
A ventilated reflective canopy reduces direct solar load while preserving diffused growing light. Mount 18–24 inches above the plants and leave the sides open for airflow.

Measurable impact
